Tips From Past Robotic Patients

Some of our patients have shared some of their experiences with us. Hopefully they will be of some help to you. If you would like to add to this list following your surgery, please do not hesitate to let us know. We will pass them along to future patients.

  • Make a chart for your medications and stick to it! Even if this requires you to get up in the night to medicate.
  • Take the Lortab or Roxicet with very warm tap water. Mix dosage in a small "Nyquil" cup. It reduces the sting.
  • Coat the throat with the Viscous Lidocaine with a mouth swab and swallow excess medication in your mouth while doing so.
  • Use the Nystatin to swish and swallow at the end of our medication session. This soothes your throat.
  • You may take several small swallows of very warm tap water to rinse your mouth.
  • Don’t worry about brushing your teeth or gargling so you don’t have bad breath. It is inevitable you will have bad breath.
  • Moisturize our lips as they will dry out.
  • Clear broth works best. Patients have used anything from Wylers to boxed chicken, beef or vegetable broth.
  • Eat as tolerated however most patients do not add anything to the broth (crackers) until at least the 10th to 12th day.
  • Chocolate snack puddings work well according to one patient. They are soothing. Yogurt, applesauce, scrambled eggs, ice cream, Ensure-type products with ice cream in them makes a nutritious drink. Runny mashed potatoes worked well for a few patients after the 10th day.
  • Freeze bananas and cut into small slices while frozen when able to tolerate.
  • Last but not lease, be happy your pants will be much looser and you will be on your way to loosing weight that you have been promising yourself to do!!!
